Methodology

How we know what we publish.

Black Healthspan is built to be cited. Every number, summary, and recommendation passes through a four-stage pipeline — federal sources, AI translation, credibility scoring, and cultural review — before it reaches you.

    01 — Sources

    Federal-grade, refreshed daily

Our research pipeline pulls daily from the CDC (BRFSS, NHANES, NVSS, MMWR), NIH, PubMed, USPSTF, peer-reviewed journals, and federal demographic databases. Every datapoint cites its origin and the date it was last refreshed.

    02 — AI translation

    Plain language, never watered down

We use frontier large language models to translate raw scientific text into plain language. Every AI-generated summary is reviewed against the original source for fidelity before publication. AI augments — it never replaces — editorial review.

    03 — Credibility scoring

A 0–100 score on every study

Each study is assigned a credibility score based on publication venue, study design, sample size, replication, and applicability to Black populations. Scores are visible on every research card.

    04 — Cultural review

    Race-stratified by default

Our editorial standards explicitly require race-stratified data when available, social determinant context, and asset-based framing — disparities are described as systemic, not personal.

“If it can’t be cited, it doesn’t ship. Rigor is the floor, not the ceiling.”
